The Department of Basic Medical Science is a department with twelve full-time faculty, and many adjunct faculty, whose primary directive is to provide a stimulating and productive educational atmosphere for the students and faculty of the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Medicine. In order to achieve this directive the faculty and staff strive to: 

• investigate and implement effective teaching methods that successfully impart knowledge, relevance, and learning skills to the students who take courses offered by this department;
• pursue interdisciplinary research and other scholarly activities that integrate
  Basic and Clinical Sciences;
• actively recruit Medical Students and Postgraduate Physicians to conduct
• research in our laboratories;
• provide UMKC and the School of Medicine guidance and service so that the
• Department, Medical School and University derive maximum benefit from
• our position within the Medical School.
