An active center for medical education and research with programs in undergraduate, graduate and continuing medical education, Saint Luke's is been a primary teaching hospital of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine beginning in 1989. Backed by a network of more than 550 skilled physicians representing more than 56 medical specialties, Saint Luke's has established some of the finest specialized clinical services and support programs in the metropolitan area. For instance: The region's premier cardiac center, the Mid America Heart Institute of Saint Luke's Hospital, is world renowned for its work in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. The Institute performs more than 2,000 coronary balloon angioplasties, 6,000 cardiovascular lab procedures and 950 open-heart surgeries a year and supports an active heart transplantation program. Saint Luke's offers a Level I trauma center and a Level III neonatal intensive care nursery, the highest designations. Saint Luke's is also recognized for its cancer center, a 15-bed dedicated stroke center, a state designated regional arthritis center, sleep lab, sexual assault treatment center, developmental preschool program offering speech, physical and occupational therapy for developmentally delayed children, and a kidney dialysis/transplant center. |
