Applying for admission to the B.A./M.D. Program


Applicants for admission to the UMKC School of Medicine six-year B.A./M.D. program must submit all application materials by November 1, 2009. No applications will be accepted after this deadline. Incomplete applications that become complete after November 1, 2009 will be reviewed on a space-available basis.

Students applying to the School of Medicine must complete the following:

  • The UMKC application for admission
  • The School of Medicine supplemental application (including the Technical Standards section).

- A $35 non-refundable application fee is required from Missouri residents.

- A $50 non-refundable application fee is required for non- Missouri residents.
These fees are for students applying with the online application only. Paper applications may be assessed a higher fee.

In addition, applicants must submit the following supporting documents and information:

  • An official high school transcript (Official college transcripts are also required if you are applying as a college student)
  • Official test scores (Missouri residents must provide an ACT score. Out-of-state residents may submit SAT scores, however, the ACT is preferred. UMKC does not consider SAT subject exams.
  • Personal statement (500 words or less)*
  • Short answer responses*
  • High school (and/or college) activity sheet*
  • Health experience sheet*
  • School of Medicine reference forms, which need to be submitted by teachers, counselors or school administrators directly (a minimum of three is required). Recommenders must submit the official School of Medicine recommendation form. Letters of recommendation will not be accepted in place of the official recommendation form.

An application will NOT be reviewed for admission until all supporting documents have been received. When all application materials have been received, the Council on Selection at the School of Medicine will review all complete applications.


After the review of all complete applications by the School of Medicine Council on Selection, candidates will be selected for an interview. Students are selected to interview based on the information provided in a complete application. If selected, applicants must interview in-person before the Council on Selection; phone interviews are not permitted.


After all invited applicants have been interviewed, the Council on Selection will extend offers of admission to those candidates who best qualify for the program. The Council uses the School of Medicine competencies to assist in the selection process. Applicants will be notified in writing of the
decision.
