M.D. Program: Applying for Admission

students

 

Applicants for admission to the UMC School of Medicine M.D. program must submit all applications by August 1. Students offered admission to the M.D. program will matriculate to the School of Medicine in January.

 

American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS)

All applicants must apply through AMCAS. Please follow the instructions provided on the AMCAS application. Once the application has been verified by AMCAS, it will be sent to the medical schools to which you have applied.

 

Supplemental / Secondary Application

All applicants must complete the general application for admission to UMKC. The application can be found online. The application and $50 application fee must be submitted by August 1.

 

Technical Standards and E-Consent

All applicants must compleate and submit the School of Medicine Technical Standards.
All applicants must also complete and submit the School of Medicine E-Consent form.

Letters of Recommendation

The School of Medicine participates in the AMCAS Letter of Recommendation program, and all letters of recommendation must be submitted through the AMCAS letter of recommendation service. Letters of recommendation sent directly to the School of Medicine will not be accepted or used in the admission process. It is recommended that letters come from those who can speak to your academic ability and other personal characteristics as they relate to medical school. Family members and/or friends of the family should not provide letters of recommendation.

 

Interviews

After the review of all verified applications, the Council on Selection will determine which candidates are selected for an interview. If selected for an interview, candidates are required to be present at the date and time of the interview. All candidates invited to interview must interview in person at the School of Medicine. No phone interviews are permitted.

After all selected candidates have completed the interview process, the Council on Selection will extend offers of admission to those candidates who best qualify for the program. A holistic and individualized process is used when considering candidates, and selection is based on the core competencies of the School of Medicine. Candidates will be notified in writing of the School of Medicine's decision.

 

ADMISSIONS TIMELINE FOR M.D. APPLICANTS

May 1: Application is Available. Applicants must complete both the AMCAS application and the general application for admission to UMKC.

August 1: Application Deadline. The AMCAS application and the general application for admission to UMKC must be submitted by this date. The last MCAT score accepted is the June MCAT.

SEPTEMBER: Offers to interview are extended. Applicants selected for an interview will be notified via email. Applicants not selected for an interview will be notified via U.S. mail.

SEPTEMBER – OCTOBER: Interviews take place. All candidates selected for an interview must select and confirm an interview date for the interview.

OCTOBER: Offers of admission are extended. Candidates offered admission will be mailed an admissions packet notifying them of their acceptance to the program. Students placed on the alternate list or denied to the program will also be notified at this time. All admission decisions are communicated via U.S. mail. Admission decisions are not communicated via phone or email. All decisions of the Council on Selection are final.

JANUARY: Students who have been offered admission and who have accepted the offer of admission will matriculate to the School of Medicine in January.
