The University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine

and its affiliated hospitals offer 16 different residency programs and a variety of subspecialty fellowships. Each program has been tailored to incorporate the key elements of hands-on clinical experience, didactic teaching, research, and professional and peer interaction into a clinical environment ideal in which to develop the techniques to become a competent, skilled specialist.

AFFILIATED HOSPITALS

Five highly respected, area hospitals form the core of the UMKC program. Each hospital is unique, offering residents exposure to diverse patient cultures and to clinical settings ranging from those found in a large regional referral institution, to the city's original public hospital, to a major pediatric medical center. The locales range from urban core to rural, yet all are within range of the UMKC School of Medicine base in the Kansas City area.

The primary affiliated hospitals are:

Between these five institutions, there are more than 1,000 physicians and 1,300 hospital beds. On an annual basis, there are more than 51,800 inpatient admissions, 825,000 outpatients visits and 148,400 emergency room visits. Virtually all approaches to health care can be found -- from high tech to high touch -- but always with the patient foremost in mind. Depending on the program, residents and fellows may rotate through one or more of these primary institutions throughout the course of their educational experience.

All programs are accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and by their respective professional organizations.
