The UMKC School of Medicine hematology/oncology fellowship is a three-year ACGME-accredited program with one position open each year for subspecialty physicians who seek strong, diverse training in hematology and oncology. Solid tumor oncology, hematologic malignancies, non-malignant hematology and supportive care in oncology are all well represented in the clinical experiences of the fellow. Training leads to ABIM board eligibility in the fields of both hematology and oncology.

Partner Hospitals

Our fellows gain a wealth of experience at Truman Medical Center Hospital Hill and Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City, while also taking advantage of several other regionally recognized health care facilities in the Kansas City area including Children's Mercy Hospital and the Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City.

Truman Medical Center Hospital Hill provides hematology/oncology service as both a primary inpatient service and a consultation service. The outpatient hematology/oncology clinic is one of the busiest subspecialty clinics at the hospital, providing care to over 400 new cancer patients per year, as well as to many patients with non-malignant hematologic diseases. TMC has a federally funded regional hemophilia center and a state-funded sickle cell anemia center.

Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City offers hematology/oncology inpatient service as both a primary inpatient service and a consultation service. Saint Luke's Hospital acts as a regional referral center for allogeneic and autologous stem cell transplants and acute leukemia care.

Children's Mercy Hospital offers a Hematology/Oncology inpatient unit that consists of 25 private rooms with five in the Bone Marrow Transplant unit. Children's Mercy Hospital is the only Level I pediatric trauma center in the region.
