Welcome
The four-year, Obstetrics and Gynecology training program is designed to prepare residents to function as primary care providers for women. This program offers progressive training in obstetrics and gynecology, fulfilling the 48-month requirement of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in preparation for the certification examination.
Formed by the merging of the residency programs of Truman Medical Center and Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City nearly a decade ago, the Ob/Gyn training program offers experiences at both locations. These two institutions, separated by only three miles, combine the strengths of indigent and tertiary care experience. Together they provide a model environment for residents desiring to develop techniques representative of competent, skilled physicians in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Experiences are enhanced by the department's commitment to research. Excellent research and library facilities are provided for residents, students and faculty. The UMKC School of Medicine, adjacent to Truman Medical Center, houses the library and the Medical School's research facilities. The Health Sciences Library at Saint Luke's Hospital also provides a full range of reference texts, journals, and audiovisual materials. In addition, a study area with Obstetrics/Gynecology texts and journals is located on the second floor at Saint Luke's Hospital. Each resident is expected to complete a publishable paper by the end of the fourth year. Funding assistance is provided for residents presenting at national meetings.
